Bouquet Logistics: Where Do Your Flowers Go During the ‘I Dos’?

You’ve walked down the aisle, all eyes are on you, and now….... what do you do with your bouquet?
Traditionally, brides pass their bouquet to the maid of honour, but there are plenty of creative (and practical) options that won’t leave you awkwardly juggling flowers while trying to say, “I do.”
1. The Classic Hand-Off (aka, “Here, You Deal with This”
The tried-and-true method: hand your bouquet to your maid of honour. She’s probably already holding your vows, fixing your dress, and crying happy tears—what’s one more thing? Bonus points if you have a cute vase at the altar where she can stash it instead of holding it like an oversized baton.
2. The “Let’s Make It Décor” Move
This is what I did at my own wedding—I had a vase on the signing table and simply popped my bouquet in there. Not only did this free up my hands, but it also made for a beautiful floral display that looked amazing in photos.
3. The VIP Gift Option (aka, “Mom, This Is for You”)
Want to give someone special a role in your ceremony? Hand your bouquet to your mom, grandma, or another VIP in the front row. It’s a sweet way to honour them, and they’ll love holding something so meaningful. (Just give them a heads-up so they’re not panicking when you suddenly shove flowers at them.)
4. The Bold Move: Just Hold It
Not into the idea of setting your bouquet down? You can totally just hold it throughout the ceremony. This works best if your bouquet is light and compact—if it’s a giant cascading masterpiece, your arms might start to regret this decision by the time you hit the vows.
Final Thoughts: Do Whatever Feels Right!
At the end of the day, there’s no right or wrong answer—just what feels most natural to you. Whether you hand it off, place it in a vase, or keep holding it, the most important thing is that you’re comfortable and focused on the moment.
And don’t worry—your photographer (ahem, me!) will capture all the gorgeous details, no matter what you choose. 💐✨
